This artwork endeavours to honour the kakapo’s uniqueness through a bold and daring composition that weaves together vibrant colours and a dynamic interplay between its various elements.
The grand-sized kakapo alludes to its „owlish” attributes, while simultaneously highlighting the points of contact the bird shares with the other members of its parrot family - the kaka and kea.
Portraying its head and body turning to the inside of the page highlights another intriguing physical trait of the kakapo - the challenge of identifying the presence or shape of its diminutive wings.
In its turn, the smaller-scale kakapo calls attention to its terrestrial locomotion, capturing its endearing clumsiness as both the heaviest and only flightless parrot in the world.
However, the most audacious section of the whole outlook unfolds within the camouflage scene, which reveals this parrot’s ability to blend into the forest’s lush tapestry.
Helped by the intricate portrayals of its patterns and feathers, this perspective aspires to transport the viewer into New Zealand’s enchanting woodlands - the kakapo’s natural habitat.
