This artwork draws direct inspiration from the kookaburra’s intricate vocalizations and the pivotal role they play in its social interactions - either within the family circle or towards other birds.

The group representation encapsulates the essence of a „family chorus” - the loud, vibrant melodies resonating across the page as the birds celebrate their domain.

Complementing the singing ensemble, the grand-sized portrait captures the laughing kookaburra in all its regal splendour. In an earnest pose, the bird’s wings and tail take centre stage, appealing for the contemplation of the bright, almost iridescent blue colour present in its wing feathers, or the patches of orange-brown in some of its tail feathers.

Highlighting the fierce and piercing intensity of the kookaburra’s gaze, the close-up view around its eye underscores an unyielding nature. The bulky shape and impressive strength of its beak are equally revealed in a reminder of the kookaburra’s hunting skills and ability to defend their territory when necessary.
